Furniture and Playground orders were formally approved by the school board at our April Board meeting. The following are concept photos to help you visualize the spaces. Please note these are concepts. Colors/paint/flooring may not match actuals.
Newfolden Library: The library will takeover the space currently being utilized by Mrs. Johnson's fourth grade classroom. This will be used by students in Grades 2-4. The library will feature a circular area for seating and have book shelves along perimeter and in large curved shelving around the seating area. There are also work tables that will allow the space to be used for small group assistance at different times during the day. (picture 1-2)
Viking Elementary Library: This room will be located in the room currently occupied by Mrs. Umber's Grade 2 classroom. The main library space will feature a couple of work tables and book shelves surrounding the perimeter of the room. The shelfing will allow students to flip through books vs. just seeing their spines which our younger children enjoy. A small secondary area will be utilized as a sensory area for students that need some one on one time, need a quiet space, or need some activities that help them as needed. (picture 3 and 4)
Playground near 5th/6th Grade wing: The playground will be installed just north of the 5th/6th grade classroom wing. It will also feature an outdoor basketball court adjacent to the space. The goal of this playground was to allow as many kids as possible to play within the space we had available. It features some new types of equipment not featured in our other playgrounds at school or in the city. (picture 5)
HS Cafeteria: This image gives you sneak peek of what the furniture will look like in the space. Please note ceiling is much higher in this space than the image shows. We will feature round tables which were very popular among students when they viewed samples of different options. There is also some bench seating and some standing tables. When this space is complete we'll use it as a cafeteria but it also will serve us well for special events like athletic banquets, Senior Tea, NHS induction, and more. (picture 6)
Grade 5/6 Classroom: The final picture shows concept of furniture selected for the 5th/6th grade classrooms. They feature large desk space which will help students complete their work and projects.
