Attention C-Squad Basketball Parents:
Tonight's game vs. Sacred Heart in Newfolden has been cancelled.

Dear Families and Staff, 2/15/2021
We were notified by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) that members of the MCC School community tested positive for COVID-19. It is possible these persons were able to spread the disease while in the community.
The following dates and locations were involved:
2/4 and 2/5: MCC High School
2/11 and 2/12: Viking Elementary
We cannot for privacy reasons share details about the people. At this time, all have been told to stay home and away from other people (in isolation) until they are well and can no longer spread the disease. We have worked with MDH to identify those who were in close contact with the person who tested positive for COVID-19, and have told them directly to stay home and/or to work from home for 14 days, even if they have a negative COVID-19 test during that time. This is how long it can take to show signs of the disease. If you have not been contacted, your child is not considered a close contact, and there is nothing special you need to do.
Because the spread of COVID-19 from unknown sources is widespread in Minnesota, you should continue to watch your child for COVID-19 symptoms, which include: Fever of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, New cough or a cough that gets worse, Difficulty/hard time breathing, New loss of taste or smell, Sore throat, Nasal congestion/stuffy or runny nose, Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, Muscle pain, Extreme fatigue/feeling very tired, Severe/very bad headache, or Chills.
If your child gets symptoms, they should stay home and you should talk with their doctor or other health care provider to decide if they need to see a doctor and/or to get tested for COVID-19.
We understand that this news may make people feel uneasy. We have taken action to clean and sanitize the building and are working closely with MDH to watch the situation. We are asking all members of our community to lower the chance of spreading illness by taking the following actions: Protect yourself and others by wearing a face covering, Wash your hands often with soap and water, Cover your coughs and sneezes; do not touch your face with unwashed hands, If you are sick, stay home from school, child care, sports, and other activities, Clean all commonly touched surfaces often, such as telephones, doorknobs, countertops, etc.
If you have questions, contact Nurse Julie, jdahlman@mccfreeze.org.Thank you for helping to keep our school community safe.

Nearby Thief River Falls area has experienced a surge in community spread of COVID-19. We have also been seeing an uptick in cases in Marshall County as well. It is pertinent we all do our part to squelch this increase for everyone's health and to insure there are no disruptions to school.
- Wear Mask
- Stay Home when Able, for sure when sick
- Wash your hands often
- Social distance away from others not in your household
- Avoid Unnecessary Travel
- Get tested if not feeling well
- Get your vaccination when the opportunity becomes available

We have had some questions from families regarding travelling. Here is some helpful information to consider regarding travelling.
The CDC and MDH discourage any unnecessary travel. If you must travel outside of the state/area use safety precautions to protect yourself and family.
Out of state travel is highly discouraged.
Before you travel: Look at area and how much spreading of COVID is going on. A great reference is Global Epidemic Website: https://bit.ly/2LO4o7i that provides a 7 day rolling average by county.
While traveling:
- Wear a mask, stay six feet from other people, avoid crowds, and wash hands often.
After travel:
CDC and MDH are recommending you get tested prior to travel and 3 to 5 days after traveling. They also advise staying home for 7 days after travel if you test or 10 days if you do not test.
For more detailed information go to CDC Travel website:

The school district welcomed a brand new bus #7 to the transportation fleet today! This bus replaces the 1997 International Bus #7 with over 230,000 miles. New bus 7 is a Blue Bird gasoline model and will be used as a route bus for the area east of town, Holt, and Holt area. On another transportation related note Bus Driver Appreciation week is coming up: February 21-27. We are very proud of our bus drivers, substitute drivers, and Adam for all they do to get our kids to school and home each school day!

MCC Families,
Attached to this letter you will find our February School Calendar outlining which days each student group is in school. We are very pleased and thankful that COVID cases in the county have improved significantly. School will be held in person for all K-12 students Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday throughout the month of February. Head Start will continue in person in school on Mondays and Tuesdays. Preschool will continue in person in school Thursdays and Fridays. Wednesday is a Distance day for all students. February 17 is off for all students as it is a scheduled Teacher In-Service Day.
We have moved serving meals for pick up for families on Wednesdays only now that K-12 in school regularly 4 days per week. Please continue to click on links sent via app notification, text message, and Facebook alerts to sign up for Wednesday meals. The link is also available on our Webpage by clicking on COVID 19 Information. We remind families to use Wednesdays to contact teachers if your child needs additional help/support or has fallen behind and needs assistance to help them catch up.
Everything has been working well for our students involved in activities. So far we have started High School basketball, Freeze Hoops, Robotics, and Musical practice. We have also started elementary band class and held our annual spelling bee. Our safety protocols have been working well.
For basketball, we have a process for sign ups so parents can attend games. Our opponent schools provide information ahead of time which makes things easier for everyone. For those that are not allowed to attend games, we are hosting games held at MCC and Tri-County on the NFHS Network. There is no cost to view games hosted at our home sites but you do need to create an account on their app or webpage to view home games. We will post information on where to watch games online as soon as our opponents share the information with us. Some are hosted on Facebook, Youtube, and the NFHS network.
We will continue to monitor the health situation in the county and within our school. The last week of February we will post our March calendar. We are hoping to add school on Wednesdays starting in March so it is crucial for everyone to continue to follow all recommendations regarding safety. Stay home when sick, wash your hands frequently, maintain social distancing when out in the public, and wear masks indoors in public areas and with people not from your household. If you ever have any questions about whether it is okay to send your child to school, please call our school office and office staff or Nurse Julie can assist you.
We would like to express our appreciation and thanks for all our families understanding and patience. We know COVID 19 has made things very challenging for everyone. Your efforts and willingness to make adjustments work have helped our school staff immensely. Thank you for supporting our school staff and helping your children understand how important it is to work together.

Superintendent
