2-19-2021 MCC Families, Attached to this letter, you will find our March planning calendar. We will remain in our current Learning Model for a few more weeks. Due to the uptick in cases in our area, the first two weeks of March we will continue with Wednesday being a distance day for all students. We will serve takeout meals and have Tier I Emergency Childcare on Wednesday, March 3 and Wednesday, March 10. We are hoping to begin a return to 5 days a week in-person schooling starting March 15. Under this plan starting on the 15th: Head Start Students would go Monday - Wednesday. K-12 would go all five days each week. PreK would go to school Thursdays and Fridays. The remaining Wednesdays in March (17, 24, and 31) would be early dismissal days where students will be released from Viking at 12:25 p.m., Newfolden Elementary at 12:50 p.m., and the High School at 1:00 p.m. The early dismissal ensures we meet the teacher prep time requirements in the Governor’s executive order helping our teachers work with students home on quarantine or distance learning. The return of students 5 days a week in-person is subject to change depending on how our area of the county is doing in regards to the spread of COVID 19 and how much our school system is being affected by that. We have school conferences planned for March 8 and March 9 at all schools. March 8 Conferences will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and March 9 Conferences will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Conferences will be held via Zoom or Telephone. All elementary students will receive a scheduled conference time with their homeroom teacher. Parents of high school students may request a conference with teachers and teachers may request a conference with parents. Patty and Sarah will be mailing conference times home soon. If you are a parent of a high school student and wish to schedule a conference, please contact Missy in the high school office mbjorgaard@mccfreeze.org or (218) 874-7225. March 29 is a scheduled in-service day. We will have takeout meals available to those that reserve them and have Tier I Emergency Childcare that day. April 2, Good Friday, school is closed. No meals or childcare will be available on April 2. Please continue to follow safety protocols to protect your family and help us maintain schooling. Stay home when sick. Wash hands often. Maintain social distance from those not in your household. Wear masks indoors and when with people not from your household. Contact the school if you have any questions. I want to thank our families for being flexible and understanding with all the adjustments that we have made. The adjustments have allowed us to make the most of the situation and helped us provide education and extracurricular opportunities. Remember that we are here to support you and if you need any assistance, please call. Thank you and Take care! Jeffrey Lund, Superintendent

Dear Families and Staff, 2/15/2021 We were notified by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) that members of the MCC School community tested positive for COVID-19. It is possible these persons were able to spread the disease while in the community. The following dates and locations were involved: 2/4 and 2/5: MCC High School 2/11 and 2/12: Viking Elementary We cannot for privacy reasons share details about the people. At this time, all have been told to stay home and away from other people (in isolation) until they are well and can no longer spread the disease. We have worked with MDH to identify those who were in close contact with the person who tested positive for COVID-19, and have told them directly to stay home and/or to work from home for 14 days, even if they have a negative COVID-19 test during that time. This is how long it can take to show signs of the disease. If you have not been contacted, your child is not considered a close contact, and there is nothing special you need to do. Because the spread of COVID-19 from unknown sources is widespread in Minnesota, you should continue to watch your child for COVID-19 symptoms, which include: Fever of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, New cough or a cough that gets worse, Difficulty/hard time breathing, New loss of taste or smell, Sore throat, Nasal congestion/stuffy or runny nose, Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, Muscle pain, Extreme fatigue/feeling very tired, Severe/very bad headache, or Chills. If your child gets symptoms, they should stay home and you should talk with their doctor or other health care provider to decide if they need to see a doctor and/or to get tested for COVID-19. We understand that this news may make people feel uneasy. We have taken action to clean and sanitize the building and are working closely with MDH to watch the situation. We are asking all members of our community to lower the chance of spreading illness by taking the following actions: Protect yourself and others by wearing a face covering, Wash your hands often with soap and water, Cover your coughs and sneezes; do not touch your face with unwashed hands, If you are sick, stay home from school, child care, sports, and other activities, Clean all commonly touched surfaces often, such as telephones, doorknobs, countertops, etc. If you have questions, contact Nurse Julie, jdahlman@mccfreeze.org.Thank you for helping to keep our school community safe. Stay Safe
We have had some questions from families regarding travelling. Here is some helpful information to consider regarding travelling. The CDC and MDH discourage any unnecessary travel. If you must travel outside of the state/area use safety precautions to protect yourself and family. Out of state travel is highly discouraged. Before you travel: Look at area and how much spreading of COVID is going on. A great reference is Global Epidemic Website: https://bit.ly/2LO4o7i that provides a 7 day rolling average by county. While traveling: - Wear a mask, stay six feet from other people, avoid crowds, and wash hands often. After travel: CDC and MDH are recommending you get tested prior to travel and 3 to 5 days after traveling. They also advise staying home for 7 days after travel if you test or 10 days if you do not test. For more detailed information go to CDC Travel website: https://bit.ly/377yDxk

The school district welcomed a brand new bus #7 to the transportation fleet today! This bus replaces the 1997 International Bus #7 with over 230,000 miles. New bus 7 is a Blue Bird gasoline model and will be used as a route bus for the area east of town, Holt, and Holt area. On another transportation related note Bus Driver Appreciation week is coming up: February 21-27. We are very proud of our bus drivers, substitute drivers, and Adam for all they do to get our kids to school and home each school day!
